It was a historic adventure: 36 people traveled from Bremerhaven to New York City on a historic three-master in 2005. During the crossing, conditions were like those in 1855: unfamiliar meals, no electricity, no running water. An experience that was to have a profound impact on the travelers’ lives.
After 70 days of a stormy voyage, the proud ship, the Fridtjof Nansen alias “Bremen”, finally sailed past the Statue of Liberty into Manhattan Bay under full sail and moored in front of the skyline of glass and steel. The men, women and children walked ashore with unsteady steps, as if they had fallen out of time.
